David Cluett Memorial Cup: Birkirkara St Helens face Gżira United in the final 

It will be Birkirkara Saint Helen Veterans FC who will face Gzira United FC Veterans in the final of the David Cluett Memorial Cup after they edged Rabat Veterans on penalties. 

The game ended 1-1, with Joseph Chetcuti putting Birkirkara ahead and Christian Muscat replying for the Magpies. 

Paul Bugeja, Joseph Chetcuti, Kevin Borg Degiorgio and Anthony Portelli all scored from the spot for Birkirkara, while Franco De Gabriele, Dylan Falzon and Gilbert Scerri were Rabat’s scorers. 

Gzira United FC Veteranswere the first finalists as they had beaten Zurrieq Wolves Veterans 9-3. 

Jonathan Pearson, Alex Muscat, and Jamie Pace got a brace each for the Maroons, Firas Aboulezz, Adrian Lanzon and Matthew Bartolo scoring the other goals. 

Zurrieq netted through an Alex Muscat own goal, Kevin Vella and Clarence John Conger Thompson. 

Gżira United will play Birkirkara St Helens this Friday at the St Dorothy’s Grounds with the kick-off set at 7.30pm.

Malta Veterans: Four teams qualify for the semifinals of the David Cluett Memorial Cup

Four teams booked a place for the semifinals of the David Cluett Memorial Cup organized by the Malta Veterans Association.

In the quarters finals played between Wednesday and Thursday, Gżira United surprised all odds as they ousted league leaders Żejtun Red Stars winning 9-1.

Even Żurrieq Wolves had a positive outing after a 3-0 victory over the more-quoted MFPA. Rabat Veterans saw off Luxol St Andrews 6-1 while Birkirkara St Helens confirmed their good form of late as they beat Pieta’ Hotspurs 7-3.

Meanwhile all proceeds from this competition will go to the Malta Community Chest Fund. For this occasion, Dr George Vella, the Maltese president kicked off this competition together with VMA president Malcolm Camilleri and Carlos Cluett, the brother of the late David Cluett.

In a brief speech, Dr George Vella praised this initiative and thanked the Malta Veterans Association for their contribution toward the MCCF.

Malta Veterans: Gilbert Camilleri inspires Żejtun Red Stars to victory

Gilbert Camilleri Lowell scored a hat-trick for Zejtun Red Stars Veterans who maintained their positive streak by beating Pieta Hotspurs Veterans 7-2 in today’s second VMFA Hyundai Premier League game.

Michael Borg Olivier opened the score for Zejtun, with Camilleri Lowell adding another two before half time.

Borg Olivier made it 4-0 after the restart, with Erroll Burnell and Malcolm Camilleri replying for Pieta to half the deficit.

The Red Stars soon reasserted themselves however, and Camilleri Lowell, Tyron Borg (photo) and George Frendo ensured the three points and consolidated top spot for Zejtun.

Malta Football Players Association kept their pace with Żejtun Red Stars as they beat

Zurrieq Wolves Veterans 6-1

Thomas Paris and Branko Nisevic gave MFPA a two goal lead, with Robert John Zammit reducing the deficit.

MFPA were not to be denied however, a Jonathan Bondin hat-trick and a Carlo Mamo goal making sure of the three points.

Gzira United FC Veterans beat Luxol St Andrews Veterans 7-1.

Michael Galea gave Luxol the advantage, but Gzira United Football Club managed to turn it round in a match played under constant rain.

The Maroons won the three points thanks to braces by Alex Muscat and Firas Aboulezz, and other goals by Jonathan Pearson, Beppe Antignolo and Aaron Xuereb

A high scoring win for Birkirkara Saint Helen Veterans FC as they overcame Rabat Veterans 13-4 with Claudio Calleja among the players on song for the winners.

Birkirkara went 3-0 ahead through a Claudio Calleja double and Glenn Bonello with the third.

Kevin Loughborough reduced the arrears for the Magpies but Calleja got his hat-trick for 4-1, Christian Caruana scored a fifth and Calleja found the net again for 6-1.

Rabat tried to claw their way back into the game, Timothy Zammit twice and Clint Micallef scoring to take them within touching distance.

However, David Azzopardi, Calleja with his fifth, Azzopardi again, a brace by Bonello, a Loughborough own goal and a goal by Mario Caruana confirmed Birkirkara’s dominance, earning them the much deserved three points.

Żejtun Red Stars keep first place after comfortable win

Zejtun Red Stars Veterans’ positive streak shows no signs of abating after registering a 5-2 win over Luxol St Andrews Veterans in another round of matches from the VMFA Hyundai Premier League.

George Frendo and Tyron Borg put Zejtun 2-0 ahead, JeanBert Gatt replying for Luxol to half the deficit.

Frendo scored again for Luxol but Michael Galea reduced the arrears to keep Luxol in the game.

Nikolay Filipov and Noel Tabone however found the net for the league leaders to ensure the three points.

A thrilling encounter was witnessed in the match between Rabat Veterans and Malta Football Players Association which ended in a 6-6 draw with the former Malta international Michael Mifsud grabbing a hat-trick for MFPA.

Dylan Falzon gave Rabat a two-goal lead, but William Borg, Mifsud and Borg again put MFPA 3-2 up.

Clint Micallef levelled the score before half time, with Gilbert Scerri and Micallef scoring again after the break to put the Magpies 5-3 ahead.

Mifsud reduced the arrears for MFPA and Manuel Sevasta made it 5-5.

Falzon got his own hat-trick to put Rabat ahead for one last time, only for Mifsud to score again and earn a point for MFPA.

Zurrieq Wolves Veterans and Birkirkara Saint Helen Veterans FC took a point each from this game, with both goals scored in the second half.

It was Zurrieq who went ahead through Robert John Zammit midway through the second period, Claudio Calleja earning a point for Birkirkara late on.

Gzira United FC Veterans obtained a convincing win as they saw off Pieta Hotspurs Veterans 7-2.

Alex Muscat was in top form for the Maroons, opening the score and proceeding to help himself to a hat-trick.

Firas Aboulezz scored twice, with the other goals coming from Jonathan Pearson and Andrew Cohen.

Sunday Ikenchukwu and Jose Luis Carlos Lopes scored late on for the Hotspurs.

Żejtun Red Stars maintain positive trend

Żejtun Red Stars Veterans remained unbeaten as they edged out a 3-2 win over Birkirkara Saint Helen Veterans FC as another round of matches was played from the VMFA Hyundai Premier League game.

Claudio Calleja opened the score for the Stripes, with Nikolay Filipov equalizing for Zejtun.

Calleja scored again to put Birkirkara 2-1 up, but Gilbert Camilleri Lowell levelled the score.

Noel Tabone signed off the comeback for Zejtun by scoring the all important goal for a 3-2 win.

Malta Football Players Association beat Gzira United FC Veterans 5-1 to climb second alone in the table.

Stephen Wellman and Michael Mifsud gave MFPA a 2-0 headstart, with Alex Muscat reducing the deficit for the Maroons.

A Gzira comeback was never on the cards however, and goals by Alex Ribic, Carlo Mamo and Ribic again ensured a 5-1 win for MFPA.

Pieta Hotspurs Veterans beat Rabat Veterans 6-3 to obtain the most important three points.

Mario Crupi twice and Lawrence Vella put the Hotspurs 3-0 up, with Fabio Cauchi reducing the arrears for Rabat.

Jeffrey Chetcuti then restored Pieta’s three goal advantage and Justin Felice replied with Rabat’s second before half time.

Sunday Ikenchukwu scored Pieta’s fifth and sixth in the second half, Justin Felice netting in between for the Magpies

Żurrieq Wolves Veterans and Luxol St Andrews Veterans shared the spoils in an exciting 4-4 scoreline

Michael Galea opened the score for Luxol, only for Clarence John Conger Thompson to turn things round by scoring twice for Zurrieq.

Luxol however restored the lead through Andrew De Cesare and Luke Satariano before half time.

Satariano scored again in the second half to give Luxol a two goal advantage, but Zurrieq clawed their way back to earn a point thanks to goals by Thompson and Steven Marc Sadowski.

Żejtun Red Stars on top after winning direct clash

Zejtun Red Stars Veterans took command of the VMFA Hyundai Premier League table as they beat Malta Football Players Association 8-5 in yesterday’s top of the table clash. 

MFPA started the night with a two-point advantage over the Red Stars, but Zejtun were determined to turn the tables and topple the leaders. 

Zejtun started strongly and scored four times without reply through Noel Tabone (2), Gilbert Camilleri Lowell and Michael Borg Olivier. 

Stephen Wellman reduced the arrears for MFPA, only for Camilleri Lowell to make it 5-1 for Zejtun and Jonathan Bondin again reducing the gap before half-time. 

Camilleri Lowell scored his third early in the second half, with further goals by George Frendo and Nikolay Filipov putting the Red Stars 8-2 up. 

MFPA’s attempted comeback came too late in the game, but Wellman’s second and third goal, and Bondin’s second of the night made the result more respectable. 

Birkirkara Saint Helen Veterans FC produced a convincing victory as they beat Gzira United FC Veterans 10-1. 

Claudio Calleja and Glenn Bonello each scored a hat-trick for Birkirkara, with Joseph Chetcuti, David Azzopardi, Trevor Cilia and Paul Bugeja adding to the tally. 

Dino Cachia scored the Maroons’ only goal.

Ronnie Hartvig shines with a hat-trick as Luxol grab first win

Ronnie Hartvig was instrumental was Luxol St Andrews as they clinched their first victory in the VMFA Kia Premier League after scoring a hat-trick in the match against Rabat. Luxol won 4-3.

The St Andrews outfit was determined to get the points that mattered and went on the offensive from the word go although they found Rabat as a hard nut to crack. In the end, the former had the last laugh.

As Hartvig scored a hat-trick, Luke Satariano completed the score for Luxol.

Even Pieta’ Hotspurs could celebrate their first victory of the season after a 4-2 scoreline against Żurrieq Wolves. The Hotspurs were sharp in their approach and had Luis Lopez netting a brace while Jeffrey Chetcuti and Lawrence Vella added more goals to their tally.

Żurrieq had Roderick Caruana and Jurgen Mifsud reducing the score for their team.

VMFA Kia Premier League: Cohen on song as he notched a poker 

Former Maltese international player Andrew Cohen was on song as he scored four goals for Gzira United FC Veterans in the match from VMFA Premier League game against Żurrieq Wolves Veterans. The Maroons managed to produce a 9-3 win. 

Jonathan Pearson (2), Dino Cachia, Alex Muscat and Adrian Lanzon also got their names on the scoresheet for Gzira, with Clarence John Conger Thompson (2) and Robert Magro both scoring late on for Zurrieq. 

Rabat Veterans held Zejtun Red Stars Veterans to a 4-4 draw in a really thrilling encounter. 

Justin Felice put Rabat one up, Michael Borg Olivier levelling for Zejtun, only for Felice to score twice and put Rabat 3-1 up. 

Noel Tabone reduced the arrears for Zejtun but Clint Micallef restored the two-goal advantage for the Magpies. 

Zejtun were not done however, and Nikolay Filipov and Tabone both scored to earn a point for the Red Stars.  

Birkirkara Saint Helen Veterans obtained a 4-1 victory over Pieta Hotspurs Veterans.. 

The Stripes cruised into a four-goal advantage through Robert Perkins, Glenn Bonello (2) and Florin Danut Paun. 

Jeffrey Chetcuti scored a consolation goal late on for the Hotspurs. 

Malta Football Players Association beat Luxol St Andrews Veterans 8-3 Mark Barbara, Jonathan Bondin’s brace and Charles Polidano put MFPA 4-0, with Michael Galea and Jean Bert Galea halving the deficit for Luxol.  

MFPA scored again before half-time though, this time through Thomas Paris, to go into the break with a three-goal advantage. 

In the second half Stephen Wellman and Barbara put MFPA 7-2 up, with Galea scoring his second and Luxol’s third for 7-3. 

Barbara then grabbed his hat-trick and MFPA’s eighth goal of the night for an 8-3 final scoreline

MFPA register massive win

MFPA climbed first in the table with the same points as Żejtun Red Stars after obtaining a massive 9-1 scoreline against Birkirkara St Helens.

As the score clearly indicates, the Malta Football Players Association dominated the match from start to finish with their opponents who found it difficult to play their usual game.

Mark Barbara and Thomas Paris scored a brace with Manuel Sevasta, Jonathan Bondin, Stephen Wellman, William Borg and Alexander Ribic also putting their names on the score sheet.

Trevor Cilia scored Birkirkara’s only goal.

In another match played at the St Dorothy’s Ground, Pieta’ Hotspurs and Luxol St Andrews shared the spoils in an entertaining 3-3 scoreline.

Both teams had lost their initial match and although they tried hard to get the three points, they had to go home with a point apiece.

The Hotspurs had Leandros Calleja, Lawrence Vella and Mario Crupi on target while Luxol answered back through Oleg Rybin, Michael Galea and Luke Satariano.

Żejtun Red Stars keep perfect track in the VMFA Kia Premier League

Żejtun Red Stars Veterans maintained their perfect start in the VMFA Kia Premier League as they beat Gzira United FC Veterans 4-3.

Gzira went ahead through Alex Muscat, only for Zejtun to turn things round thanks to Gilbert Camilleri Lowell and Michael Borg Olivier.

Alistair Dalli equalized for the Maroons but Nikolay Filipov (photo) and Tyron Borg gave Zejtun a two goal cushion.

Renato Conceicao reduced the arrears for Gzira towards the end.

Rabat Veterans took all three points as they beat Zurrieq Wolves 4-3 in today’s second VMFA Kia Premier League game.

Adam Smeir (2) and Darren Galea scored for the Magpies, following an own goal by Zurrieq’s Jurgen Mifsud.

Clarence John Conger Thompson scored twice for Zurrieq, with Robert John Zammit adding a third.
