Gzira United maintain first place

Gzira United maintained the first place of the VMFA Cisk Premier League after beating Żurrieq Wolves 7-4.

It was a game which the Maroons controlled from start to finish although the Wolves always kept doing their best to keep up with the pace of their opponents.

Ian Zammit and Justin Grioli scored three goals each while Jonathan Pearson added another goal for his team.

Żurrieq had Kevin Vella scoring a double while Brian Axisa and Bjorn Bondin got their names on the scorers’ list.

Floriana still trail the Maroons by a point as they narrowly defeated Rabat Veterans 6-5.

It was an uncertain game until the end with Rabat giving their best although on the day it was not enough.

Christian Cassar was the star of the day for the Greens when he scored three goals with Manolito Micallef, Glenn Bonello and Gilbert Scerri adding more goals for their team.

The league’s top scorer Adam Smeir and Gilbert Camilleri scored a double each with Andre Scicluna keeping hope alive for Rabat.

Hibernians got their second win of the season after beating Birkirkara 7-5 in another very interesting match.

Beppe Antignolo scored a hat-trick for the Paolites while Adrian Lanzon, Clayton Micallef, Steve Bonnici and Ilia Nazarov also found the net.

Luke Satariano scored a double for the Stripes with Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza, Ronnie Hartvig and Bojan Kaljevic adding to their tally.

MFPA had a walk-over against Żejtun Red Stars.
