Gżira United climb first after winning direct clash

Gzira United Veterans climbed first in the VMFA Cisk Premier League standings after beating Floriana 2-1 in a highly anticipated game.

Gzira came out very well where they started to create several attacks with Floriana’s goalkeeper Justin Spiteri who saved several balls. They even hit the post through Ian Zammit before Kevin Sammut put them in the lead and a few minutes later, Sebastian Nayar made it 2-0 with a low shot.

In the second half, Floriana tried to show a reaction and had a goal disallowed by Manolito Micallef. Towards the end they reduced the scoring margin through Gilbert Scerri.

In an entertaining match, champions MFPA and Birkirkara St Helen’s ended their clash in a 4-4 draw.

Robert Perkins scored two goals for the Stripes with Firas Aboulezz and Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza adding more goals for their team.

The Malta Football Players Association had George Frendo scoring a double with Julian Galea and Aleksandar Ribic among the scorers.

Rabat Veterans had a dominant performance over Zejtun Red Stars so much so that they beat them 11-0.

Adam Smeir was an inspiration when he scored no less than six goals so that Ibrahim Tarek and Leandros Calleja notched a brace with Joseph Caruana closing the match.

Żurrieq Wolves got their fourth win of the season after beating Hibernians Veterans 3-2.

Alexei Saliba was the star for the Wolves when he scored twice while Kevin Vella also found the back of the net.

Craig Schembri and Beppe Antignolo scored the Paolites’ goals.
