The Maltese Veterans Selection won the Trevor Francis Memorial Cup when in an international game played in Amersham they beat the English supporters 5-4 after the penalty shoot-out.
It was a very balanced game with the Maltese who although trailing to 3-1, managed to keep their concentration so that they eventually equalized the score and went to the penalty shootout.
Eventually, they managed to score all their five penalties with the English supporters missing one shot from the 11-metre mark.

The score at the end of the 90 minutes was 3-3 with the Maltese scoring their goals from Adam Smeir, Andrew Cohen and Gareth Sciberras.
This was the second match between the two nations as last June, the Maltese won 3-0 in the game that was played at the Luxol Stadium.
The Maltese selection of Veterans played with this formation:
Mario Muscat, Jeffrey Chetcuti, Brian Said, David Camilleri, Michael Galea, Andrew Cohen, Gareth Sciberras, Jonathan Pearson, Adam Smeir, Jamie Pace, Stephen Wellman.
At some point in the match, Sean Sullivan, Alex Muscat, Malcolm Camilleri, Garrett Magri, Trevor Cilia and Kevin Sammut also had the chance to play.
