Gżira United maintain one point lead in the table

Gżira United maintained their one-point lead at the top of the VMFA Cisk Premier League table as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Floriana in the direct clash played at the MCS Ground in Birkirkara.

It was a very exciting and electrifying game which left all those present on tenterhooks.

After a goalless draw in the first half, the match came to a head when the Maroons took the lead but the Florians quickly equalized.

It was Arthur Oyama who beat Floriana goalkeeper Justin Spiteri with a low shot so that Malcolm Licari finally equalised for the Greens.

With two matches remaining in the championship, Gżira start as favourites to win the title especially if they maintain their consistency.

Champions MFPA maintained their positive performances as they beat Birkirkara St Helen’s 11-7. Stephen Wellman was the star for the Malta Football Players Association when he scored a poker, with Mark Barbara scoring a hat-trick and Roderick Bajada shining with a brace. Thomas Paris and George Frendo combined the 11 goals for MFPA.

Birkirkara were still in the game with Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza scoring a hat-trick with Mario Caruana and Daniel Scerri both scoring a brace.

Hibernians Veterans maintained their progress by defeating Żurrieq Wolves 5-4.

It was not an easy game for the Paolites as Żurrieq did not give up an inch throughout the game.

Beppe Antignolo scored three goals for Hibernians with Steven Bonnici scoring twice.

Beppe Muscat scored a brace for Żurrieq who also had Mario Camilleri and Kevin Vella finding the net.

With this result, Hibs are level with Żurrieq in sixth place in the standings with 15 points.
