Hibernians book a place in the Championship pool as they see off Luxol

The last round of the VMFA Cisk Premier League took place this week, as the league will now be divided into two categories, being the championship pool for the top four teams and the challenge pool for the bottom three teams respectively

The fixture Luxol v Hibs was a decisive one as the winner of the match would see themselves clinch a place in the Championship pool.

A close affair between both teams saw the Whites go above Luxol and therefore just sneaking in the Top four, goals from Ilia Nazarov x2, Jeffrey Chetcuti, Mauro Brincat, Alan Tabone, Leandros Calleja, Adrian Lanzon and an own goal from Paul Murphy, all proved significant in giving Hibs an 8-6 win over their rivals Luxol, who despite their best efforts, especially from Manolito Micallef who scored a poker, and goals from Mauro Camoranesi and Beppe Antignolo, ultimately didn’t prove enough for the Luxol team to snatch a top 4 place and are therefore now going to be part of the Challenge Pool.

Gżira had a rather straightforward win on Rabat as they saw them off 7-3 to keep on adding the pressure on league leaders MFPA. Significant contributions from Arthur Oyama and Gilbert Camilleri, gave Gzira a convincing 7-3 win over a lacklustre Rabat side, as they scored a hat trick and a brace respectively, solitary goals from Ian Zammit and David Azzopardi made matters worse for the Whites, who only managed to find 3 goals in response to the seven they conceded, with the aid of Adam Smeir, Dylan Falzon and Ibrahim Tarek.

Birkirkara St Helen’s dominated their match against Żurrieq Wolves as they lost 7-0.
The Stripes thumped a disjointed Zurrieq Wolves with a hat trick from Ayrton Buhagiar and a brace from Malcolm Bugeja respectively, while Daniel Cremona also scored a brace of his own to continue to add to Zurrieqs misery.

These results from the last round mean that the Championship pool will be tightly contested, especially between the Top 3 MFPA, Birkirkara and Gzira, whilst Luxol, Rabat and Zurrieq Wolves will battle out in the Challenge Pool.
